Bandari goalie Obungu resumes light training

The former Sony Sugar, Sofapaka and Tusker goalie injured his thump late November while training and was therefore, ruled out of Cecafa regional tournament

Bandari custodian Wilson Obungu has resumed light training after breaking his thump that subsequently saw him miss 2013 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup held in Kenya.

The former Sony Sugar, Sofapaka FC and Tusker FC goalie injured his thump late November while training and was therefore, ruled out of the regional tournament that hosts Kenya went on to win.

“My doctor removed the bandage late last week giving me go ahead for light training. I am very happy to be back after a disappointing period on the sidelines,” Obungu told Goal.

“I wish first to congratulate the triumphant Kenyan team for winning Cecafa after such a long time. But on the other hand I was gutted missing out of the team due to the injury.”

Voted as the second runners up keeper in KPL Awards behind winner Jerim Onyango of Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards' Wycliffe Kasaya (formerly with Sony Sugar), Obungu was instrumental as the dockers finished sixth in KPL log last season.

“Focus now is to work extra hard to gain match fitness so that I can help my club in the new season. The objective with us is to better last season’s performance.”
