Gabon’s Franck Engonga joins Boca Juniors

The 19-year-old former FC Mounana striker has signed for the Argentine side to become the first Gabonese to ply his trade in South America

Gabonese club FC Mounana announced on Friday in Libreville that its forward Franck Engonga had signed a juicy contract with prestigious Argentine side Boca Juniors.

Officials said the 19-year-old was spotted by Italian scouts representing the Los Xeneizes during the 2012 London Olympic men’s football tournament last August.

Details of the purported deal were not revealed to reporters. Engonga’s contract with Mounana runs till 2017.

The striker was a member of Gabon’s inspiring youth outfit that stunned the continent last year by clinching the 2011 CAF U-23 Championship – the central African nation’s first football title.
