Thanks for joining me for this coverage of the 0-0 draw between Manchester City and Southampton in the Premier League.
The visitors remain winless but will be encouraged by their performance today as they earned a hard-fought point against a team who were largely expected to beat them. They host Wolves next as they look for their first three points of the season. The Citizens meanwhile move up to second, although they have played a game more than the other early league leaders. They have a big game next time out in the league against Chelsea, who are expected to be right up there with City come the end of the season.
It's a brilliant point for Southampton and they could've potentially come away with all three after they had a penalty and Walker red card taken away by a controversial VAR decision. City ramped up the pressure late on and themselves saw a VAR decision rule out a late winner as Foden's header off the post was put in by Sterling, who was adjudged to have been offside.
90' + 8' Southampton are now camped in their own box as they look to cling on for a fantastic point against the reigning champions. They have defended very well today.
90' + 6' It's now City who come forward and the ball is crossed in but it is too far. The ball is then put in again but the quality of the delivery was poor, as it has tended to be for both sides today.
90' + 5' They decide against putting the ball in the box and play it instead to the corner.
90' + 4' Southampton will have a late free-kick as Broja is brought down by Ake. Can they snatch three points here?
90' + 2' It's not going to count! The ball flicked up off the post from Foden's header and Sterling puts in the rebound but the goal has been ruled out for offside.
90' City have the ball in the net through Sterling and that could be the winner! But will it count? There will be a VAR check as there is suspicions of there being an offside in the build-up.
90' Sterling's shot is blocked over for a corner.
88' City put a couple of crosses in the box but there isn't any real threat.
R. Perraud
V. Livramento
86' Livramento, who just got booked, is replaced by Perraud.
86' De Bruyne strides through midfield and lays it right to Sterling but his first touch is poor and the visitors can clear.
V. Livramento
Yellow Card
84' Livramento goes in the book after a hard sliding challenge on Sterling.
84' Southampton have a chance to counter but they don't commit enough men forward and the attack peters out.
82' Grealish glides down the left wing and wins a corner but it comes to nothing.
80' Redmond dances into the box but can't pick anyone out and the ball is hacked clear.
79' The home side haven't had a shot on target today, a real surprise some of the attacking talent they have on the field.
78' De Bruyne dribbles his way into the box but can't find the space to get a shot away.
76' Ederson easily collects a tame Armstrong shot straight down his throat.
74' It's now City who have a shout for a penalty as Sterling goes down in the box.
P. Foden
Bernardo Silva
72' Foden makes his way onto the pitch as Silva comes off. Can he unlock the Saints defence?
70' Southampton have drawn their last three matches. Will that run be extended to four games?
A. Broja
C. Adams
68' Adams is brought off for Broja, who is on loan from Chelsea.
68' The visitors are certainly looking the most likely to break the deadlock right now. They are pressing the hosts high up the pitch. This time it's Ward-Prowse who wins the ball back and is then brought down for a free-kick.
R. Mahrez
Gabriel Jesus
67' Jesus is replaced by Mahrez. It just didn't quite happen for the Brazilian today.
66' Grealish's curving cross is sent over by the boot of Sterling from a tight angle.
K. De Bruyne
65' It'll be an attacking change made by Guardiola as he brings off Fernandinho for De Bruyne.
63' No penalty! After a lengthy VAR check that included referee Jon Moss going over to the touchline monitor, the original decision of a spot-kick and red card has been overturned. Walker stays on the pitch and City live to fight another day.
62' Walker has now also been shown a red card for the foul on Armstrong that led to the penalty, but again this will be looked at by VAR.
61' Do the visitors have a penalty? Redmond wins the ball high up the pitch and plays it to Armstrong. He beats his man and is then brought down by Walker as he bears down on goal. Southampton have been awarded a penalty but there will be a VAR check.
59' De Bruyne is being prepared to come on.
57' Ake's header from a corner goes wide and he is now down with a head injury.
56' Salisu makes a vital headed interception to stop the ball getting to Jesus in the box.
54' Adams drags a shot wide when he should've done better.
53' Grealish cleverly lets the ball go through his legs to Jesus as it is played into him, but the Brazilian smashes his shot well over.
K. Walker-Peters
Yellow Card
52' Walker-Peters sees a yellow card for fouling Sterling.
50' De Bruyne is warming up, which is bad news for the visitors as he has more goal contributions against them than any other team. He has averaged a goal or assist every 63 minutes in this competition against the Saints.
47' The Saints have an early corner in this second half. Ederson punches the ball away from the set-piece and Redmond fires a driven shot in but it is blocked.
46' The hosts get us back underway.
Hasenhuttl will be pleased with how his side have fared so far but you'd expect City to ramp it up in the second half, especially as the options on their bench include the likes of De Bruyne, Foden, Mahrez and Torres. Will we see one of these sides produce the quality needed to break the deadlock in the second-half?
The winless visitors started the first 45 minutes very well before the reigning champions came into the game more and more as the half went on. There's been a lack of real clear-cut chances though and neither goalkeeper has had to make anything harder than a routine save.
45' + 1' Walker-Peters has to deal with a cross that makes it all the way to the back post as he heads it behind.
45' There will be two minutes of additional time at the end of the first half.
43' Redmond is played in down the left but he picks the wrong option with his ball in and the danger is cleared.
41' Fernandinho drops a teasing ball behind the defence but Jesus' header goes high and wide.
40' Grealish dribbles all the way to the byline but Romeu cuts out his cross.
38' There's a brilliant run by Elyounoussi and he plays it through to Armstrong but his touch is heavy and takes him away from the goal and allows Ake to regain possession.
M. Salisu
J. Stephens
37' The injured Stephens limps off and is replaced by Salisu
34' Stephens puts the ball out and goes down as he grabs at his leg. The physios rush on but it looks as if a substitution will need to be made.
33' Gundogan fires a whipped free-kick well over.
31' Jesus' shot is acrobatically blocked by Bednarek.
29' The home side are just starting to click into gear here. They have won all of their last three Premier League home games by a scoreline of 5-0.
28' Jesus' low ball in just evades the toe of Silva.
26' Sterling's curling effort goes well wide.
25' McCarthy comes for a corner and doesn't get there but Ake can't send his header goalwards and the danger is gone.
24' Grealish's delivery is low and threatening but it is cut out well by Bednarek before any damage can be done.
22' Walker's cross to the back post finds Gundogan but he just can't get high enough to send his header downwards and it goes wildly over.
20' The home side just struggling to get into a rhythm so far. The visitors have made a good start and their manager will be encouraged by what he has seen so far.
18' Sterling's ball through to Gundogan just has too much on it and is collected by McCarthy.
17' The corner goes to the back post but Fernandinho can't get enough contact on the ball to send it back across and it skims off his head for a goal-kick.
16' The hosts have a corner as a Grealish cross is blocked behind.
15' The free-kick nearly sneaks in at the far post as it goes all the way through from James Ward-Prowse.
14' The referee plays advantage but then pulls it back for a Southampton free-kick after Walker-Peters was brought down.
12' There's no doubt that Hasenhuttl's men have been the better side so far. They are threatening down the left-hand side particularly.
10' It's been a positive start for the visitors but history is not on their side in terms of Premier League games and today's opponents. City have won eight of the last nine meetings between these clubs in this competition.
9' Armstrong cuts in but his shot is intercepted before it can reach the City goal.
8' Elyounoussi tries his luck but his shot is blocked and Ederson easily catches the looping ball.
6' It'll be a home throw-in down the right after a dangerous cross from Jesus was cleared.
4' Ederson comes and claims the cross.
3' The Saints have an early corner after some good link-up play between Redmond and Walker-Peters.
2' It's the visitors who have had most of the ball so far.
1' Southampton get us underway.
1' Elyounoussi fires a tame shot at the hosts' goal but it is easily saved by Ederson.
The teams are making their way onto the pitch.
Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl also makes three alterations to his side with Bednarek, Walker-Peters and Adams starting whilst Salisu, Perraud and Djenepo drop to the bench.
City boss Pep Guardiola makes three changes to his side from their last Premier League game with Ake, Fernandinho and Sterling coming in. Foden also makes an appearance on the bench while Rodri and Laporte don’t make the squad.
