Why Everton could be hit with a THIRD points deduction as Premier League season begins with looming threat of PSR breach punishment

According to The Sun, the Toffees are alleged to have breached Profit and Sustainability Rules by an extra £6.5m in 2022/23. They have already been docked points for going £16m ($20m) over the limit in the same season, losing two points, and this discovery could lead to a further deduction.

As a result of their overspending in 21/22, they were docked 10 points although that sanction was reduced to six on appeal. While an investigation has been opened into this latest potential breach, neither the league nor Everton are aware of when a verdict will be returned.

The league believe the £6.5m should be added to Everton's spending, while the Toffees do not believe it should be considered because they are stadium costs. Their decision to contest the investigation could lead to a harsher penalty if they are deemed to have broken the rules.

Everton will hope to focus on matters on the pitch instead of off them as the season begins. The Toffees play Brighton and Hove Albion in their Premier League opener on Saturday.
