‘Spits on the floor in disgust!’ - Wayne Rooney ‘let down’ by Plymouth star as Man Utd legend left ‘disappointed and frustrated’ at battling to Championship point with nine men

The Championship side were held to a 1-1 draw away to QPR, with Plymouth having two men sent off in the game. Rooney appeared particularly angry with Adam Forshaw, who was dismissed in the 29th minute. It came one minute after Rooney's side had scored an equaliser and the former England striker's reaction said it all.

Alvin Martin, former West Ham defender, was in the gantry commentating on the match and described the incident to talkSPORT. He said: "Forshaw gives him (the referee) no alternative whatsoever. He'd already had a yellow, and rightly so because he had two or three fouls on Dembele in the same move. Wayne Rooney's reaction tells us everything. He spits out on the floor in disgust, because his player has let him down there."

Rooney admitted after the match that he was happy with how his players battled for the match, but ultimately cannot complain about the first sending off. He added: "It's a silly second tackle. It's two yellow cards so I can't complain about that one. But then the attitude, the energy, the courage the players showed… Defending the box, getting blocks in was fantastic. So I’m pleased from that point of view."

Rooney's start to life in charge of Plymouth has been nothing short of chaotic. His side were hammered 4-0 away to Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day but have fought back to pick up consecutive draws in the league since. They currently sit 21st in the table, yet to record a win.

The Manchester United legend will be hoping to earn that first league win when Plymouth host Stoke next weekend. But they must first travel to Watford in the second round of the Carabao Cup in what will be a tough match.
