Birmingham faced relegation from the Championship despite registering a 1-0 win over Norwich City in the final game of the season. They needed a victory and a few favourable results from fellow relegation fighters to stay up. While they did their part, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn Rovers all emerged triumphant in their respective fixtures.

With the Blues getting relegated, an all-American showdown awaits in the English third tier as they are set to face Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's Wrexham next season. The Red Dragons finished second in League Two and gained consecutive promotions.

Very few fans would have imagined that Birmingham would be going down when Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney was handed over charge in October.
