Todd Boehly blocking Chelsea's path to 55,000-seat Stamford Bridge redevelopment with 'civil war' raging on inside club

Chelsea co-owners Boehly and Eghbali are currently locked in a dispute over the direction of the Premier League giants. The Clearlake Capital partners are looking to buy each other out and are involved in a tussle in the boardroom, the outcome of which could have a significant impact on the club's future.

Per The Sun, if the Eghbali-led faction comes out on top, the Blues will look to stay at Stamford Bridge and redevelop the ground into a 55,000-seat venue. Eghbali does not want a complete demolition of the existing stadium as his plan includes renovating the west stand and building concrete decks over the neighbouring railway line. The American billionaire, on the other hand, wants to build a new 60,000-capacity stadium down the road at Earl's Court.

A source close to the west London side told The Sun, "There is a growing realisation that Earl’s Court can’t be done, while Boehly could be out of the club soon. If Todd Boehly leaves, then the club are expected to push forward on plans to remain at Stamford Bridge and work towards a solution for a 55,000-capacity stadium."

Enzo Maresca's side are currently on a seven-match unbeaten run across all competitions and they will be next seen in action against Liverpool on October 20 at Anfield.
