Ronald Araujo confirms he wants Barcelona stay amid claims club tempted to cash-in on expiring €60m release clause

  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    Araujo has refuted claims that he is leaving the club and stated that he wants to stay, despite the club trying to sell him this summer to abide by the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. He was on the verge of an exit in January when Serie A giants Juventus emerged as his potential suitors; however, he signed a contract extension until 2031 soon. Currently, he has a release clause worth €60 million ($70m/£52m), which would be valid until July 15.

    Araujo cut short his vacation to return to training at the Ciutat Esportiva on Wednesday morning, and left the training facility after three hours. While departing, he met the fans and clicked photos, and answered the queries posed by the journalists present in the scene.

    When a journalist asked him if he wanted to stay at Barca, he replied: "For me, yes."

    WHAT NEXT FOR ARAUJO?

    The Uruguayan defender is expected to join Barca's pre-season camp, which is set to commence on July 13. On that day, the medicals will be held, and Flick will start his first training session of the 2025-26 season the following day.
