  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Following a successful 2024-25 campaign, where the Blues also secured a Champions League slot, Maresca spent heavily in the summer transfer window to make new additions to his squad to further bolster it. They have brought in quality attacking options like Liam Delap, Joao Pedro and Jamie Gittens, while Jorell Hato has strengthened their backline.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Goalkeeper Sanchez, however, feels that despite the new signings, the old guards like Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernandez remain the key figures in the dressing, who can inspire the club to reclaim lost glory this season.

  • WHAT SANCHEZ SAID

Speaking to ESPN Deportes, Sanchez said: "Cole Palmer and Enzo Fernández are two amazing players. Palmer on the field is a role model, with impressive quality that can carry you through a match. He’s a star; he’s quiet. Enzo is different; he has quality and consistency, and off the field, he’s one of the captains.

"Enzo Fernández is young, but it’s not about youth; it’s about how you work and act day in and day out, and that’s why he deserves to be one of the captains. It’s a young team, but one that aspires to great things."
