WHAT HAPPENED?

<a href="https://as.com/futbol/primera/echar-a-xavi-cuesta-15-millones-n/" target="_blank">AS</a> reports that the departure of Xavi and his coaching staff would cost the club close to €15 million (£13m/$16m). Meanwhile, it has also been reported that incoming boss Hansi Flick would earn close to 30 percent less than Xavi did after his most recent contract extension. This would all get accumulated into the club's salary limit for next season.

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Due to Barcelona's already ongoing economic struggles, it is believed inside the club that Xavi would be willing to forego his part of the termination wages which comes out to around €7m (£6m/$8m). This would definitely help Barca with their already tight wage limit and potentially open up space for more signings this summer.
