  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Chelsea sent Sterling to Arsenal on loan at the very end of last summer's transfer window, but the winger failed to make any impression in north London. Sterling did not manage a single Premier League goal for the Gunners and only made seven starts in the top flight in the 2024-25 campaign.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Sterling will now head back to Chelsea but is facing an uncertain summer. There appears to be little future for him at Stamford Bridge, although he remains contracted to the club until 2027. Another move may therefore be the best option for both parties, but it's not clear if he will stay in England or look to head abroad.

    WHAT NEXT FOR STERLING?

While Sterling's future is not yet known, he will still take a keen interest in Arsenal's fortunes as eight-year-old son Thiago has signed for the club's academy.
