PSG beat Seattle Sounders 2-0 in their final Club World Cup group game as the Ligue 1 side progressed to the knockout stages of the competition.

Seattle were given a huge opportunity to open the scoring as Gianluigi Donnarumma appeared to get in a muddle on the edge of the box after 20 minutes, and gave the ball away, with it dropping to Jesus Ferreira. The Italian had vacated his goal, but Ferreira could only fire his effort over the crossbar.

And the MLS club were swiftly punished, as PSG had the lead 15 minutes later, as Vitinha's effort from the edge of the box, after a corner, struck Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and found its way into the bottom corner.

After the restart, PSG dominated territory and in the 65th minute, Achraf Hakimi scored a second, finishing comfortably at the back post when unmarked after Bradley Barcola's cut-back.

Seattle pushed for a consolation, but could not get one, as PSG saw out their victory with a minimum of fuss.

  • THE MVP

Desire Doue is simply unplayable at his best and he would not stop driving at Seattle whenever the ball came his way. He made five dribbles throughout the game, and he also made six tackles, showing just how hard-working, and mercurial, the young winger is.

    THE BIG LOSER

Senny Mayulu led the line for PSG but he struggled against Seattle's aggressive defensive press. He only managed one shot on goal, and did not test goalkeeper Stefan Frei. He is only 19, but he needs to add some more finesse to his game, particularly with his back to goal.

  • WHAT COMES NEXT?

PSG are into the knockout stages of the Club World Cup. They have finished top of the group, and go through with Botafogo. They will now play the runners-up in Group A; one of Palmeiras, Lionel Messi's Inter Miami, Porto, and Al-Ahly.
