    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Former Sweden star and current IF Brommapojkarna manager Olof Mellberg and Australia women's boss Tony Gustavsson were the frontrunners as the SvFF wanted them to work together. However, talks with Mellberg have broken down and although the prospect of Gustavsson taking over is not over, the governing body are considering other options.

Solskjaer is reportedly interested in taking on the job after meeting with the federation in December. The former Molde manager has been angling for a new job recently, having reportedly been in talks with Besiktas before the Turkish team announced the appointment of former Portugal manager Fernando Santos.
