  • WHAT HAPPENED?

McGregor caused a bit of controversy when he went for a kickabout with Arsenal duo Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka at the Emirates last month and the mixed martial artist went to watch the Gunners again, this time at Newcastle. Earlier on in the day, the 36-year-old was all smiles in the stands but after Mikel After's team fell behind, the Irishman looked less jolly - something the gleefully Magpies pointed out.

  • WHAT NEWCASTLE SAID

Newcastle posted two photos of McGregor at the game and captioned it: “How it started vs how it’s going… Hope you enjoyed your trip to St. James’ Park, @thenotoriousmma.”

In the comments, the Toon then paraphrased a famous McGregor quote by writing: "On this post, we'd like to take this chance to apologise… to absolutely nobody."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The result means Arsenal have not won in the Premier League since beating Southampton four weeks ago. While defending champions Manchester City lost to Bournemouth, Liverpool beat Brighton - meaning they are seven points ahead of the north London outfit. They cannot afford to drop points again anytime soon if they want to win their first Premier League title since 2004.

The tests don't get much easier for Arsenal this week as Arteta's side travel to Inter on Wednesday in the Champions League before they visit London rivals Chelsea next Sunday in the Premier League.
