A new deal for Sergio Ramos? Legendary centre-back dreams of contract extension but Sevilla still to make a decision

After 18 years away, the then free agent Ramos returned to his boyhood Sevilla last September, signing a contract until the end of the 2023/24 season. Although Sevilla sit 15th in La Liga, are out of the Copa Del Rey and came bottom of their Champions League group, Ramos has featured regularly for the Red and Whites this term. Now, Spanish publication Relevo claims the 37-year-old wants a new deal but because the club's board were not completely aligned in wanting to sign the veteran last year, a fresh contract may not be forthcoming.

It appears Ramos, who spent 16 years at Real Madrid between 2005 and 2021 before joining Paris Saint-Germain two and a half years ago, is keen to continue playing despite the fact he is turning 38 next month. Whether Sevilla will extend the stay of the former Spanish international, who snubbed a lucrative offer to join a Saudi Pro League side last summer, remains to be seen.

Following Sevilla's 2-0 loss to Athletic Bilbao in La Liga last month, Ramos stopped a post-match interview to shout at a fan in the stands, accusing them of lacking "respect" before telling them to "shut up and go!"

Ramos' Sevilla return to action on Sunday when they host fourth-placed Atletico Madrid at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium in the league, followed by a trip to Valencia, who sit eighth in the table, the following Saturday.
