  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The Three Lions manager's existing contract expires in December 2024 but according to the BBC,the FA are happy with Southgate's performance as the head coach of the men's national team and could consider extending his stay if the manager wishes to continue in the role.

    Southgate has confirmed that he will "see how the summer goes" but has hinted that he could remain beyond 2024. There had been an expectation that he would leave at the end of the tournament, regardless of how England perform, but now it appears a new deal could be thrashed out.

Under his tutelage, England reached the final of the Euro 2020 and made it to the semi-final and quarter-final at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups respectively. If he stays in charge beyond December, he will become the third longest-serving England manager after Sir Alf Ramsey and Sir Walter Winterbottom.

    The Three Lions will begin their Euro 2024 journey on June 16 against Serbia. They will also face Denmark and Slovenia in the group stage, and before the flagship continental competitions kick off, they will play two friendly matches against Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland at home.
