  • A few days left in window
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Arteta admitted that Arsenal are short of options up front, with Jesus the only real cover for Kai Havertz. If there is an opportunity in the final few days of the transfer window, he expects the Gunners to try and take it.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Jesus missed the 2-0 win over Aston Villa with what was described by the club as a "slight" groin issue. Ahead of the game, Arteta had suggested another forward wasn't needed, but being without one of his options at Villa Park appears to have changed his mind. Napoli's Victor Osimhen is reported to be set on Paris Saint-Germain, while Ivan Toney is linked with the Saudi Po League, so it remains to be seen what options there are.

  • WHAT MIKEL ARTETA SAID

"We are really happy with the squad," Arteta told Sky Sports after the final whistle. "It's true we had an injury with Gabriel Jesus and we missed him. We are a little bit short and if we can do something then we will do it."

He later explained the Jesus situation at the post-match press conference: "We have to see. Probably [Sunday] or Monday we'll have the results to see if it's a matter of days or weeks. We don't know [how long he'll be out for].

    WHAT NEXT FOR ARSENAL?

If the potential pursuit of another forward is directly linked to the severity of Jesus' injury, Arsenal will need a medical verdict as soon as possible. By Monday, the summer transfer deadline on Friday is only a matter of days away, meaning the club must work quickly if recruiting is deemed to be the solution.
