Marco Reus goes viral on social media for lackadaisical defense in LA Galaxy's 3-0 Loss to St. Louis

Legendary Dortmund and Germany forward Marco Reus isn’t known for his defense, but his lack of effort on that end of the pitch was called out on social media after LA Galaxy’s 3-0 home defeat to St. Louis City SC.

Despite showing flashes of his attacking prowess, the 35-year-old midfielder came under fire for his role in St. Louis' opening goal just before halftime. Reus was caught napping as Cedric Teuchert pounced on a loose ball from a corner to fire home the opener.

Reus acknowledged the team’s struggles in an interview with LAGalaxy.com, stating: "I mean, it's the worst start that we could have. We played four games, four losses. Conceded too many goals. We are not scoring so many goals. Just one. I think today in the first half, we played, I would say, well. We created many, many chances. But at the end, we lost the game and that is really what matters."

Taylor Twellman, a leading Apple TV broadcaster, was among dozens on social media to call out Reus's performance.

LA Galaxy, the reigning MLS Cup champions, have endured a disastrous start to the 2025 season, losing their first three league games. Their poor form extends across all competitions, with four consecutive losses and a goal difference of one scored and eight conceded. This marks a historic low for an MLS Cup winner, as no defending champion has ever started a season with three straight losses.

Following their 3-0 loss to St. Louis SC, LA Galaxy sit at the bottom of the Western Conference table with the worst goal difference (-6) across both conferences. They face Herediano next at home in the second leg of their Round of 16 clash in the Concacaf Champions Cup (0-1 on aggregate) before going on the road to face Portland Timbers on March 12 and March 16 respectively.
