It’s official, Man Utd want Viktor Gyokeres! Initial talks held with Sporting CP as Ruben Amorim eyes summer reunion with Sweden star - but Man City also step up efforts to sign 26-year-old

Per Florian Plettenberg, United have initiated talks with Sporting over a deal to sign Gyokeres. The 26-year-old has been in incredible form for the Portuguese club this season, scoring 24 goals in 21 games, as he reached a new level under the now-United boss Ruben Amorim.

According to the report, however, United will have to raise funds if they want to do a deal for Gyokeres, and they also face competition from Manchester City. Pep Guardiola's side lost 4-1 to Sporting in the Champions League earlier this season, with Gyokeres scoring a hat-trick.

The Sweden international has played in England before, representing Coventry City 116 times, and scoring 43 goals. He also played eight times for Brighton, scoring once.

Gyokeres will hope to continue hitting the back of the net as City and United hover. It remains to be seen if Amorim's side are able to secure his signature.
