Man Utd close in on new sporting director: Former RB Leipzig and Tottenham recruitment chief targeted by Red Devils following partial Sir Jim Ratcliffe takeover

United are said to have earmarked Mitchell as their top candidate and approached him for the first time in March. The search is being led by the INEOS group, backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is poised to complete a partial takeover at Old Trafford, per journalist Ben Jacobs.

Mitchell is currently working with Ligue 1 club Monaco, and has also had spells with MK Dons, Southampton, Tottenham, and RB Leipzig. It now appears he is poised to move to Old Trafford, provided an agreement can be reached with the principality club.

Mitchell was a defender during his playing days and played for two clubs permanently: Wigan Athletic and MK Dons, while taking in loan spells with Halifax Town, Swindon Town, Wrexham and Barnet.

United will hope to finalise the takeover and bring Mitchell into the club to begin work ahead of the January transfer window.
