Man Utd told Matheus Cunha would relish being 'main man at a giant club' as ex-Brazil international lauds 'incredible' Wolves striker

Matheus Cunha has been urged to embrace the opportunity to become the "main man at a giant club" by former Brazil international Julio Baptista amid growing speculation linking him to Manchester United. The ex-Atletico Madrid striker, currently at Wolves, has earned praise for his performances, with Baptista highlighting his "incredible" improvement.

In an exclusive interview with footitalia.com, Baptista was asked: "Matheus Cunha has been strongly linked to Manchester United. Has he got the personality to go into the club and be the leader they’re clearly missing?"

Baptista replied: "Matheus Cunha is an incredible player. Things didn’t work out at Atletico Madrid, but sometimes you need to go about things in a different way, take a different path. Many clubs are looking at him right now, so he just needs to keep doing what he’s doing. He’s doing incredible work, having a great season. If he moves to a big club now, he will show his full potential.

"I love his personality. Some players have been weighed down by the weight of the Manchester United shirt, I don’t think that Cunha is one of those players. I think he would love to have the responsibility of being the main man at a giant club like Manchester United."

A major squad overhaul is expected at Old Trafford this summer, with Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim keen on signing Cunha for the No.10 position. The 25-year-old has a £62.5 million ($83m) release clause, but the Red Devils must offload a few players in order to facilitate the move. Per reports, United are determined to part ways with Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Casemiro and Rasmus Hojlund this summer, and could earn over £120m ($160m) from sales alone. Cunha has scored 14 goals in 28 Premier League appearances this season.

Additionally, Liam Delap is another player on Amorim's summer shopping list. The Englishman has scored 12 league goals for Ipswich Town and has a £30m release clause in his contract. Victor Osimhen, who has spent this season at Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, has been linked with United as well, but the Red Devils must generate more funds to sign the Nigerian, according to Daily Mail.

The likes of Tottenham, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Aston Villa are also reported to be interested in acquiring Cunha's services. Despite the fact that he signed a new contract earlier this season, it is widely Cunha would likely leave Wolves with the club's blessing, having stuck around in January to help ease their relegation fears.
