  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Origi's career hit the rocks after leaving Liverpool in 2022 and found himself miles off AC Milan's first-team. The Belgian forward has been in a stand-off with the club after being told to play for youth side Milan Futuro and now the two parties have agreed to sever links and allow him to leave, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

It's quite the fall from grace for Origi, who left Liverpool with six trophies to his name, including a Premier League title and a Champions League crown. His Kop End-hero status was confirmed courtesy of a dramatic late winner against Everton and two goals in the famous semi-final victory over Barcelona at Anfield. He also got on the scoresheet against Tottenham in the 2019 final.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Origi's package will see the Belgium international accept just 50 per cent of his remaining contract in severance wages. The 30-year-old was in England for the 2023-24 season, scoring once in 22 appearances for Nottingham Forest, and he only managed two strikes during his sole first-team season with Milan in 2022-23.

    WHAT NEXT FOR ORIGI?

It's symptomatic of how much Origi wants to leave that he exits AC Milan without a club waiting to snap him up. But, as a free agent, he will not be bound by rules surrounding transfer windows.
