Liverpool player ratings: Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson flop as Reds miss chance to boost Champions League chances

Liverpool missed the chance to put pressure on Tottenham and Newcastle in the race for Champions League qualification, as they laboured to a 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

Mohamed Salah rattled the bar for Jurgen Klopp's side, who recorded a fourth successive Premier League clean sheet but offered precious little by way of genuine attacking threat against a side still searching for its first win of 2023.

Palace hit the woodwork themselves through Jean-Philippe Mateta in the first half, but Patrick Vieira's men, like Liverpool, were unable to find the breakthrough, in what was a contest devoid of quality for the most part.

    Goalkeeper & Defence

    Alisson Becker (7/10):

Alert when needed and took no risks on the ball. A good response after his Real Madrid nightmare.

    Trent Alexander-Arnold (5/10):

Defensively poor. Had a free kick blocked by Henderson en route to the top corner. Subbed with 20 minutes left.

    Joel Matip (5/10):

Looked a bag of nerves when asked to turn towards his own goal. Looks bereft of confidence. Important late header under pressure.

    Virgil van Dijk (6/10):

Had the better of Mateta and was Liverpool's best defender by some distance, which wasn't saying much.

    Andy Robertson (6/10):

Prominent in the opening stages, but faded and had a tough time against Olise.

    Midfield

    Jordan Henderson (4/10):

Blocked a goalbound free-kick from Alexander-Arnold, and lost his way badly in the second half. Some of his decision-making was shocking for such an experienced player.

    James Milner (6/10):

Steady enough in midfield, then finished the game at right back.

    Naby Keita (3/10):

Got booked, made a few more fouls, nearly scored an own goal and was taken off at half time.

  • Attack

    Mohamed Salah (6/10):

Wasteful in the first half, hit the bar in the second and nearly created a goal for Gakpo.

    Diogo Jota (5/10):

Lively enough without the quality to go with it.

    Cody Gakpo (6/10):

Flashes of quality, but not the end product. Missed a decent chance late on.

    Subs & Manager

    Harvey Elliott (6/10):

On at half time, started brightly but quickly found himself doing what the rest were; giving the ball away sloppily.

    Fabinho (5/10):

Came on and started giving fouls away immediately.

    Roberto Firmino (5/10):

    No impact at all.

    Stefan Bajcetic (N/A):

Came on late and was sloppy twice in dangerous areas.

    Jurgen Klopp (5/10):

No closer to finding solutions to his side's many, many problems.
