Liverpool told Mohamed Salah will ’100 percent’ leave this summer as Reds legend backs Egyptian to be a ‘king’ in Saudi Arabia

The Egyptian international's contract at Anfield runs until the summer of 2025 and with manager Jurgen Klopp set to step down from his role at the end of the season, speculation is mounting that the forward will move onto pastures new, too. Now, Liverpool icon Lawrenson has backed the 31-year-old, who signed a new deal in 2022, to end his lengthy spell with the Merseyside outfit and predicted he will join a Saudi Pro League team next.

Speaking to Paddy Power, the ex-defender said: "100 per cent Mo Salah will definitely leave this summer. No matter what happens this season, I think there was a deal last summer. He'll go and play somewhere like Saudi Arabia and hopefully Liverpool get a massive fee and get a couple of players off the back of it. Salah will be a king in Saudi! He could've gone last summer and stormed into Jurgen Klopp's office and said 'I want to go' but he's not done that. The lads who have come in [in Salah's absence] know that they're fighting for their position, which is great, as long as a couple of them don't get injured."

The news of Klopp's impending departure sent shockwaves around the footballing world and if Salah were to leave as well, that would be a monumental double blow for Liverpool. The former Roma star has been one of the Reds' best-ever signings following his £36.5 million ($46m) move from the Italian side in 2017. Since then he has scored 204 goals and bagged 88 assists in 332 games, helping them to six trophy triumphs along the way.

Salah's Liverpool will be in action on Saturday in an away Premier League trip to Brentford, before hosting Luton Town next Wednesday. Then they take on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on February 25.
