  • Goalkeeper missed last two Reds matches
  • Brazil will not call him up for friendlies
  • May miss vital matches for Anfield club
  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The Brazilian was absent from the squad for his team's last two matches - wins against Burnley and Brentford - and has been ruled out for the upcoming Premier League match against Luton and the Carabao Cup final meeting with Chelsea on Sunday. Brazil manager Dorival Junior says Alisson will not be part of the squad for the friendlies against England and Spain in March, which suggests he is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

    WHAT DORIVAL JUNIOR SAID

"In terms of possible call-ups, all the names mentioned are important players and have some prominence in their teams. They would indeed be on a pre-list," Dorival Junior said to TNT Sports. "In particular, some players who had slightly more serious injuries, such as Alisson, Matheus Cunha, Joao Pedro and even Neymar, are totally removed from any possibility at this moment."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

The Selecao coach's comments suggest Alisson may miss important matches for the Anfield side in their challenge for the Premier League and Champions League crowns. After the cup final, they will take on Southampton, Nottingham Forest, fellow title challengers Manchester City and Merseyside rivals Everton before the international period.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who may also be without Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez for the upcoming matches, said this week: "So, not available is obviously Ali, that's a muscle injury where we don't know exactly how long it takes but definitely not for foreseeable time coming back."

    WHAT NEXT FOR LIVERPOOL?

Irish shot stopper Caoimhin Kelleher will take the 31-year-old's place for the upcoming matches as the Anfield side aim to protect their lead at the top of the English top-flight when they host Luton on Wednesday.
