The newly-crowned Premier League champions are said to have already seen one approach for the highly-rated Germany international knocked back. Arne Slot is refusing to accept defeat, with fresh terms now being presented.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool are prepared to part with a nine-figure sum. That package is made up of a guaranteed fee and a number of add-ons, with there several targets that Wirtz would have to hit in order for the full figure to be paid out.

Liverpool believe that would be money well spent as they seek to freshen up a squad that restored domestic dominance in 2024-25. The Reds have been in talks with Leverkusen and Wirtz representatives since May 23.

He had been linked with Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, while Manchester City have also been credited with interest, but Wirtz - who has already visited the north west of England - is said to have made it clear that a switch to Anfield would be his preference.

Liverpool are also closing in on a deal that will see Jeremie Frimpong lured from Leverkusen to Merseyside, with a second agreement now in the pipeline for a 22-year-old playmaker that is tied to a contract in his homeland through to 2027.
