  • WHAT HAPPENED?

    The World Cup-winning forward has been confirmed as a new associate with the France SailGP Team. Mbappe’s ‘Inspired by KM’ brand will become official charity partner of SailGP, "broadening the foundation’s global reach and inspiring young people through the power of sport".

    Mbappe, who is chasing down La Liga and Champions League honours in his day job this season, has said of that collaboration: "We are excited to be on board with this new adventure with the France SailGP Team, alongside Accor and other investors. I'm also proud that IBKM has the opportunity to engage more young people around the world through this relationship."

    SailGP have 12 national teams "competing in identical, high-speed 50-foot foiling catamarans", with races taking place in iconic destinations around the world. They were founded in 2019 by five-time America’s Cup winner Sir Russell Coutts and Oracle founder Larry Ellison, with Mbappe’s Coalition Capital group joining a consortium of investors that mean SailGP are now fully privately owned.

    Mbappe will be taking a keen interest in the how the team get on, having already pumped funding into French second division football club Caen. He has found the going tough there, with some supporters staging protests against him, but has never been one to back down from a challenge.
