  • WHAT HAPPENED?

The worst thing Havertz could have done following his poor performance against United in the FA Cup was miss a penalty in the shoot-out, but it was always going to happen. The Arsenal striker followed up a handful of missed chances at the Emirates with the only saved spot-kick following extra time, sending the Red Devils through to the fourth round at the expense of the Gunners. Havertz will certainly not be scrolling through social media tonight either, with his performance being ruthlessly analysed by those who watched the game.

    WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING

Some of Arsenal's most famous fans were jumping on the hate train at full-time, including TV host @piersmorgan. He posted on X: "Pathetic, Arsenal. How can you lose at home to a team that has 10 men for that long? So long as Havertz is our main striker, we have zero chance of winning any big trophies. He was abysmal today. If Arteta doesn’t buy big this window, incl a top striker. our season is over."

Morgan's son @spencermorgan93 was just as angry at the German international, adding: "Said it before I’ll say it again. Havertz is the worst signing in the history of the club. Never known a player suck the joy out of watching Arsenal more than him."

@Ic3Evaa did not mince their words either, saying: "Havertz is such a disgraceful player, tonight's really showed me it in all it's glory. What an awful awful footballer."

Similarly, @WolfRMFC believes there are no worse players on the planet than Havertz. They posted: "KAI HAVERTZ has to be the WORST footballer I have ever seen in my whole life."

Finally, @ConnCFC was left wondering how Chelsea secured such a hefty fee for the 25-year-old in 2023, adding: "How did Chelsea get £65m for Havertz 🤣."

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Havertz's was not the only poor performance, but his missed chances were certainly the most costly for Arsenal. Twice he skied close-range efforts, prompting groans from the Emirates crowd. It was a very familiar display to the one against Newcastle a few days earlier, which saw the Gunners shut out heading into the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie. He did win his side a penalty against Ruben Amorim's United, but it was a controversial call that infuriated opponent Harry Maguire, who had a few choice words for the forward.
