'Hope we don't get Grimsby' - Manchester United mocked by German giants Bayer Leverkusen before Champions League draw after shocking Carabao Cup exit

Less than an hour before Leverkusen found out their draw for the 2025-26 Champions League, the German side took to social media to taunt United using Grimsby Town's name. United crashed out of the Carabao Cup in the second round on Wednesday after losing 12-11 in a penalty shootout against the League Two side. Taking to X, the German club wrote: "Just hoping we don't get Grimsby..."

United were stunned by the English minnows on Wednesday night and trailed by two goals within the first half hour. However, they staged a comeback through Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire's late goals to drag the game to the tie-breaker. After a prolonged shootout, Grimsby emerged victorious and qualified for the next round.

Erik ten Hag's Leverkusen will face reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain at home in the Champions League, while they also travel to England to face Manchester City in the league phase. Here's how the German club's draw looks.
