Explained: Why UFC superstar Khabib Nurmagomedov refused to shake CBS Sports presenter Kate Scott's hand after joining panel during Champions League final

MMA legend Khabib was among those in attendance at the Allianz Arena as his beloved Paris Saint-Germain faced Inter in the 2025 Champions League final. He saw Luis Enrique’s side complete a stunning treble by breaking records in a crushing 5-0 win.

Afterwards, as PSG enjoyed wild celebrations on the back of their first European Cup triumph, Khabib joined YouTube sensation IShowSpeed in speaking with Jamie Carragher, Thierry Henry and Micah Richards on the CBS panel.

He greeted each former footballer individually, along with American streamer Speed, but declined a handshake from Scott in an awkward exchange that saw an outstretched arm quickly reeled back in. Khabib explained why he was unable to shake the hand of Scott - who is married to boxing trainer Malik Scott - and the 43-year-old presenter offered her apologies on air.

Khabib, who was born in the Russian republic of Dagestan, is a devout Sunni Muslim. It is forbidden in Islamic law for believers to touch a member of the opposite sex that they are not related to.

Khabib settled into speaking about PSG - who saw teenage wonderkid Desire Doue star in a thumping victory over Inter - and was joined in Munich by fellow UFC fighter and PSG supporter Islam Makhachev.
