  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Head coach Ronald Koeman was leading a training session for the reserves and substitutes following the Netherlands' 5-2 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the UEFA Nations League, which involved both Weghorst and Timber, who came off the bench. The Arsenal man put in a late tackle that Weghorst thought should have been given as a foul and was left furious at his international team-mate as per ESPN. The Ajax striker eventually took off his shirt and threw it to the ground before walking out of the session.

  • THE BIGGER PICTURE

Koeman had to step in to try and calm the ex-Manchester United striker down, with Dutch outlet AD reporting that he shouted "and now it's done!" to stop Weghorst from complaining. The incident reflects some of the tensions surrounding the Netherlands squad in recent days. The manager publicly criticised Steven Bergwijn for joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad and it seems he now has some counselling to do to repair the friendship between Weghorst and Timber.

  • DID YOU KNOW?

Weghorst has 40 caps for his country but has not completed more than 45 minutes in a competitive match since a Euro 2024 qualifier against the Republic of Ireland just over a year ago. Timber has returned to the Dutch squad for the first time since rupturing his ACL at the start of his first season at Arsenal last year.
