'Erik ten Hag in disguise' - Liverpool warned over 'underwhelming' Arne Slot appointment with Dutchman set to take over from Jurgen Klopp this summer

Controversial pundit Richard Keys believes Slot is not the right man to step into Klopp's shoes. Liverpool have agreed compensation with the Dutchman's current club, Feyenoord, with personal terms set to be hammered out imminently.

Speaking on beIN Sports, Keys said: "I’m trying to put myself in the shoes of Liverpool fans. Am I excited? No. Am I surprised? Yes. I’m underwhelmed if I’m honest, seriously. I couldn’t give you the name of a Dutch manager who has succeeded in our league yet. There have been one or two, like [Guus] Hiddink or [Louis] van Gaal and Ruud Gullit, who have had limited success, but nobody over a period of time has had sustained success. I think he’s Erik ten Hag in disguise."

No matter who Liverpool appoint, it is going to feel like an initial step down from Klopp. The German manager has delivered a huge amount of success to Merseyside while competing with one of the best teams in the world in the shape of Manchester City.

Slot will want to get to work as soon as he walks through the door and he may have to sort out a few issues in his first few weeks. Mohamed Salah's public bust-up with Klopp in Saturday's 2-2 draw with West Ham suggests the Egyptian may not be entirely happy and the Dutchman could have to decide whether to keep or sell his star man amid interest from the Saudi Pro League.
