'Dream come true' - Kylian Mbappe gives first speech to Real Madrid fans at sold-out Santiago Bernabeu after surprise welcome from Zinedine Zidane as his mother Fayza Lamari is reduced to tears

Blancos supporters packed into their home stadium for the official unveiling of new ‘Galactico’ Mbappe. They have waited a long time to see the World Cup-winning Frenchman don a famous white jersey, but a deal has finally been done after luring him away from Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

Mbappe endured a tough time with France at Euro 2024, suffering a broken nose along the way, but was all smiles when being presented to Real fans. Fellow countryman, and Blancos legend, Zinedine Zidane made a surprise appearance as part of the welcome party.

With a raucous atmosphere being generated at the Bernabeu, Mbappe told those in the crowd: “Hello everyone. I'll try to speak in Spanish. It's incredible to be here. I dreamed of playing for Real Madrid for years. This dream has come true today, I am a particularly happy young man. I would like to thank Mr. President Florentino Perez who welcomed me warmly from the first day. There have been many twists and turns but here I am. I would also like to thank all the people who worked to get me here. We succeeded: I am a Real Madrid player! I see my family happy, my mother crying.

“It's an incredible day for me. Since I was a child, I had only one dream, and that was to be here. It means a lot to me to be here. Thanks to the Real fans who have been showering me with love for years. I have another dream now, and that is to live up to the history of this club, the best in the world. I'm going to give my all for this club. To all the children here, know that I was like you, I had a dream and I made it come true. With determination, you can achieve anything you want. Mbappe has taken on the No.9 shirt in Madrid, with No.7 being filled by Vinicius Junior, and will be hoping to hit the ground running with the Liga and Champions League title holders after being prevented from forming part of France’s Olympic squad at a home Games in Paris.
