Cristiano Ronaldo won’t finish ‘any time soon’ in bid to post unbreakable record – with talk of following fellow Man Utd legend David Beckham into club investment at Wrexham or elsewhere having to wait

That is the opinion of the Portuguese’s former Manchester United team-mate Wes Brown. Ronaldo is now 39 years of age, but is showing no sign of slowing down at Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr. He hit 50 goals for them last season and remains a talismanic presence in 2024-25.

Ronaldo has offered no indication that retirement is in his thoughts, with Brown – speaking in association with Instant Casino – telling GOAL when asked if the all-time great will play on well into his 40s: “He has talked about it. The way that the guy looks after himself is unbelievable. To keep yourself that fit at his age is an achievement in itself. He’ll continue doing that, it’s his normal routine, and it’s one of them where Ronaldo can finish when he wants to finish. I’m sure that’s how it’ll be. If he’s enjoying it, I’m sure he’ll continue. There will come a point where he hangs them up. I don’t think it’s any time soon, even though he is getting on now.”

CR7 has spoken of wanting to reach 1,000 career goals before hanging up his boots – having passed the 900 mark – and Brown thinks that achievement may never be seen again if Ronaldo does make it. The ex-England international defender added: “He’s talked about that for a while now. To get that history, to get that far – 1,000 goals – is an achievement that I don’t think will be broken if that were the case.”

There has been talk of Ronaldo moving into club investment once calling it a day, with it suggested that he could link up with Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney at Wrexham as a route into Hollywood movies is sought. Brown said of that potential career path: “I have no clue! I think he’s concentrated on still playing in Saudi at the moment. If he fancies something once he finishes, I’m sure he’ll get opportunities to do whatever he likes.”

Brown added when asked if Ronaldo could follow fellow iconic United No.7 David Beckham into ownership – with the former England captain now working with Lionel Messi at MLS side Inter Miami: “You never know!”

Another option for Ronaldo to consider is a move into coaching or management, with Brown among those to have speculated on vast experience and knowledge being passed down to the next generation – potentially retracing steps to Old Trafford at some point in the process.
