Chelsea target another winger! Blues make enquiry for £42m-rated Lyon star as potential replacement for Jadon Sancho

Per The Athletic, the Blues have made a verbal enquiry about 20-year-old Lyon winger Fofana as they look to bolster their squad in the summer transfer window. The Premier League side are looking for right-footed wide players who can operate on the flanks, after they decided not to make Sancho's transfer permanent from Manchester United.

Fofana joined the Ligue 1 giants from Gent in January 2024 and his current deal does not expire until the summer of 2028. In the 2024-25 campaign, the Belgium international made 41 appearances across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and providing six assists. He played a key role in Lyon reaching the quarter-final of the Europa League.

Blues boss Enzo Maresca had earlier mentioned that the club are short of genuine wingers and will explore the transfer market to bolster their squad. The English side have also been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund's Jamie Gittens.

The West London side will be next seen in action on Monday as they begin their Club World Cup journey against LAFC.
