Gor Mahia have never qualified for the group stage of the Caf Champions League despite dominating the Kenyan footballing scene. They have always stumbled in the final hurdle and Kenyans hope it will be different this time around.
It is the same case with APR; they have dominated their game in Rwanda but it has not been the same case at the continental level. They have never made it to the group stages of the Champions League as well.

Both teams have never made it to the group stage 

In their history, Gor Mahia have won the Kenyan Premier League 18 times save for the 2019/20 season when the league was abandoned. Football Kenya Federation went on to annul&nbsp;the league and gave K'Ogalo a chance to represent the nation in the Champions League.
The Army have also been ruling the Rwandan Premier League, and have managed to win it 18 times. In the last decade, they have managed to be crowned seven times, one more than K'Ogalo.

Dominating domestic football 

Football in Kenya was suspended in March and since then, no team has been involved in a competitive game, owing to Covid-19, apart from the national team Harambee Stars who played Zambia in a friendly game and the Africa Cup of Nations double-header against Comoros.
Just like Kenya, Rwandan teams have been in the dark as far as football is concerned. Apart from the national team Amavubi, no team has&nbsp;been involved in competitive games. APR will be the first club to play a competitive game after about 10 months.

First competitive game for either side 

Jacques Tuyisenge will be making his debut for APR after joining in the last transfer window as a free agent. The striker has experience in the competition and will be aiming at helping the administrative side advance.
In Kenya, Tuyisenge is highly rated after helping K'Ogalo to back to back league titles. He joined in 2016 and left three seasons later, having scored 50 goals in the process. Gor Mahia will have to deal with him to avoid getting eliminated early.

Tuyisenge factor

In 2008 Gor Mahia won the FKF Shield Cup to qualify for the Caf Confederation Cup. They were paired against the Army who had also won the Rwandan Cup.
In the first leg played in Kenya, the Rwandan outfit managed to get a 1-0 win. Going back to Kigali, they multiplied&nbsp;their efforts in front of the home fans and won the game 5-0 to advance.
