  • WHAT HAPPENED?

Right after the break, the hosts opened the scoring against the run of play after Onana's woeful pass to Matthijs de Ligt was intercepted inside the United box. This was the second game in a row that the Cameroonian gifted a goal to the opposition. Unlike in the defeat to Nottingham Forest at the weekend, however, the mistake did not prove too costly as Rasmus Hojlund's brace helped United pick a narrow 2-1 win.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Amid criticism over the Red Devils' custodian's performance, captain Bruno Fernandes came to his defence. The Portuguese midfielder refused to single out Onana as he claimed that the entire team have to shoulder responsibility in case of any mistake in a match.

  • WHAT BRUNO FERNANDES SAID

Speaking to TNT Sports, Fernandes said: "We want to play from the back and everyone knows that, then we have to make the right decision on the pitch. Andre thought that Matta [de Ligt] could get on the ball but he missed it and they scored a goal.

"It is not about Andre making the mistake, we don't look at individuals here when something happens on the wrong side. We have huge belief in him. He knows he made a mistake because he is a clever guy, he is going to help us many times and we trust his qualities on the ball. Mistakes are part of football. If they don't happen then goals don't happen. But we did well to show the resilience to come back and find the victory."
