Tome's future as Spain coach is uncertain after the national team's defeat to England in the Euro 2025 final, according to a report from AS. Her contract expires on August 31, and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has made no announcement regarding her renewal.

Asked about her future after the game, Tome said: “I don’t want to think any further ahead,” while RFEF President Rafael Louzan commented: “Montse Tome’s future is an issue we need to address, but now is not the time. Tome has done a commendable job and with great courage. Her future will be discussed later.”

Despite losing the Euro 2025 final on penalties, Tome's tenure has included notable progress. She led Spain to their first-ever defeat of Germany and guided the team through a turbulent period following their World Cup triumph. Tome also secured Spain's first Nations League title in 2023 and has established a competitive side capable of challenging the best in Europe.

Sunday's match was their first European Championship final appearance, building on their 2023 Nations League title. They played out a 1-1 draw with England but lost 3-1 on penalties.

La Roja return to action in October for the Nations League semi-finals against Sweden, with the winner progressing to a two-legged final versus France or Germany.
