FC Pune City have announced the signing of Jesus Tato from Moroccan side, Moghreb Tetouan for the upcoming Indian Super League (ISL) campaign.
The 33-year-old started his career in the Barcelona youth teams. He was drafted as a Barcelona B player for two years, making 38 appearances and scoring 11 goals for the Blaugrana. He then moved on from the Catalan side to join a host of Spanish clubs in the Segunda division, throughout his career.
Real Murcia, FC Cartagena, Albacete, Xerez, Las Palmas, Real Zaragoza are some of the sides that have employed him in the past decade. In his hey days at Barcelona, he also managed to get call-ups for the Spain U-16 and U-20 sides.
Tato, who is now exploring the rest of the world; with Morocco having been a recent destination, he relishes the challenge at hand in India and hopes it would be a wonderful footballing experience.
He expressed, “I am turning a new page in my career. Having played in Spain for most of my career, adapting to new culture, new style and different players will be a challenge I will relish and hope it will make me a better player.”
FC Pune City head coach, Antonio Habas lauded Tato’s work ethic and explained his dangerous qualities in front of goal coupled with an attacking mindset.
“Tato is a player with a solid work ethic and is also a thorough team player to say the least. His attacking mindset makes him a dangerous player in any position that he plays. I welcome him to his new home and hope he makes the difference he is expected to make to the side,” he communicated.
CEO of FC Pune City, Gaurav Modwel believes that Antonio Habas has made a shrewd signing, due to Tato’s versatility.
“Tato adds versatility to our frontline. He can play forward as well as on wings as per the team’s requirements. His experience of playing in the Spanish leagues means his skill sets are up there and he will be an asset for FC Pune City,” he said.
