Apoula Edima Edel Bete has signed for FC Pune City, the club has confirmed. The experienced goalkeeper comes from Hapoel Tel Aviv after having played for Chennaiyin FC in the 2015 ISL season.
Edel Bete has had an unbelievable couple of seasons in the Indian Super League. The two teams he played for, Atletico De Kolkata and Chennaiyin FC in the 2014 and 2015 seasons respectively were crowned champions at the end of the campaign. Maybe he is just a good luck charm.
FC Pune City hope that Edel Bete would get a third time lucky and help them to a maiden championship victory. Bete expects the same as well.
“My experience playing in India has been memorable to say the least. I’ve won the title with two different teams and am looking forward to win it with my third team, i.e. FC Pune City. I am thankful to FC Pune City for providing me a new challenge and work with Habas again,” he stated.
The CEO of FC Pune City Gaurav Modwel believes that Edel Bete has a towering presence and that his concentration levels are very high, which is an excellent quality to have in a keeper. He also thinks that the former Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper was an excellent stalwart between the sticks, thwarting opposition strikers’ attempts with relative ease.
“Bete has a towering presence in front of the goal. He is one of those rare goalkeepers who can read his opponents mind early enough to anticipate and make a difference. The fact that he has been a crucial cog for both the sides that won ISL in the first two seasons (ATK in ’14 & CFC in ‘15) says enough and more about his abilities,” he said ecstatically.
Antonio Habas, who had worked with Edel Bete in the 2014 ISL season with Atletico De Kolkata, is aware of the Armenian goalkeeper’s qualities all too well. He said that Bete’s exceptional reflexes and other gifted abilities make him the finest goalkeeper in the league.
“I’ve worked with Betein the first season and let me tell you he is gifted with amazing reflexes and better anticipation. Rival strikers have never found it easy to score against him. For me, he is the finest keeper in ISL’s short history,” he proclaimed.
