Not often do you see an Indian Super League (ISL) franchise scout for players from the second division of the I-League. However, Kerala Blasters have been proactive and made two top signings in Dempo SC’s midfielder Vinit Rai and Lonestar Kashmir’s striker Farukh Choudhary.
Their signings will go a long way in restoring hope amongst the footballers plying their trade in the second division I-League that with good, consistent performances, they can certainly make the cut for the glamorous league.
Rai, a former Tata Football Academy (TFA) graduate, is known for his range of passing and link-up play with the attackers. The Assamese was also on the radar of Delhi Dynamos given that he did play under the tutelage of their assistant coach Shakti Chauhan at TFA. Standing at over six feet, he is physically strong and will certainly be a vital addition to Blasters’ squad.
Farukh Choudhary, who has scored five goals in 15 matches for Lonestar Kashmir, has been roped in by the Yellow and Blues from Kerala. The Kashmir-born striker is yet another talented product of the Pune FC academy.
Choudhary also had scored four goals for Pune FC Colts against Mohun Bagan’s Under-19 side back in March last year in the IFA Shield.
