Zokora, 34, started his professional career in Ivory Coast with ASEC Mimosas in 1999 before moving abroad to play for Belgian team Racing Genk the very next year, following which he had a two-year stint with Saint Etienne in France from 2004.
The defensive midfielder then reportedly turned down Manchester United and Chelsea to play for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. "During my last season at Saint-Etienne, Manchester United, Real Madrid and Chelsea wanted me," he was quotted by L'Equipe.
After around three years in England, Zokora traveled to Spain where he spent two seasons with Sevilla. Another three seasons with Trabzonspor in Turkey, Akhisar Belediyespor was the last club he played for.
Zokora also has the distinction of being the most capped player for Ivory Coast with 123 appearances and has featured in the World Cup in 2006 and 2010.
