Atletico de Kolkata's youth side started their sojourn in Kolkata football with a resounding 4-0 win over White Border Club at the YMCA Ground on Friday afternoon. The Red and Whites' youth side participating in the Third Division of Calcutta League, which is the fourth tier competition of the league structure in the state of West Bengal.
Imran Ali was the star of the show scoring a hat-trick while Dipu Routh also joined the party with a solitary strike.
The team is coached by Bastab Roy, who had represented the likes of Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan Sporting and Tollygunge Agragami, and is often talked about for his contribution to the development of young players at Uttarpara Football Coaching Center. The team composition primarily consists of U-19 players with a couple of seniors to add experience.
They will play their second match on Monday when they face Behala Youth's Association, who finished third in the third division last season. 16 teams are in the mix and fighting it out in the sub-standard fields of the Maidan to see themselves promoted to the third tier league of the state.
"League matches will be played with only COSCO (DELTA FORCE) BALL. Teams are requested to bring COSCO (DELTA FORCE) BALL to play the match, otherwise the concerned team shall not be allowed to participate," read the latest notice by the Indian Football Association (IFA), which epitomises the state of affairs of the said competition.
