Ishfaq dons the hat of player-manager in ISL

The 32-year-old will work under the tutelage of Peter Taylor and Trevor Morgan in Tendulkar’s co-owned franchise…

Ishfaq Ahmed’s role at Kerala Blasters will not be limited only to the playing field as he shall also double up as an assistant coach to Peter Taylor, Goal can reveal.

Having successfully completed his ‘C’ coaching license last year in a course organized by the Football Players Association of India (FPAI), Ahmed has been roped in by the Blasters to work alongside fellow assistant coach Trevor Morgan and head coach Taylor.

The former Pune FC midfielder is also amongst the players retained by the Kochi-based franchise for the second edition of the Indian Super League (ISL).

Ahmed made nine appearances for the Blasters and scored one of the crucial goals against Chennaiyin FC in the first leg of the semi-final last season and was amongst the better performers in their 1-0 loss to Atletico de Kolkata in the final.

It is also reliably learnt that Victor Pulga, the Spanish attacking midfielder who made six appearances for the ISL finalists has been retained by the Blasters for the second edition of the ISL.

However, Kerala Blasters’ general manager, Viren D’Silva remained unavailable for comment.
