Chennaiyin FC, which was one of the late entrants in the inaugural Indian Super League (ISL) season, have agreed to bring back star man, Elano Blumer as their marquee player for the second season.
Elano would be joining on loan from Santos for the entire duration of the second edition of the ISL.
The Brazilian World Cup star had made an instant splash in the ISL last year, when he accelerated to eight goals in his first six matches, and eventually ended up winning the Golden Boot.
The former Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk and Galatasaray player was widely lauded for his deadly free-kicks and pin point passes as he spearheaded the Blues to finish top of the table.
Marco Materazzi who had recently agreed to serve as head coach for the side which eventually lost out to Kerala Blasters for a final berth expressed his delight at the signing.
“We are delighted to have retained Elano for the second season of the Indian Super League. He was outstanding in the first ISL and his class and superior technical quality will definitely give us an edge this season also. We are working very hard to build a strong squad and retaining Elano as our marquee player is a big step in that direction,” Materazzi opined.
The player who had managed to score nine goals for the Seleccao, had joined Brazilian club Santos this season where he led them to the Campeonato Paulista, the top flight football league in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
“I am thrilled to sign for Chennaiyin FC to play in the second season of the ISL. I have fantastic memories of my first season in India, where I really enjoyed performing in front of some great support especially in our Marina Arena in Chennai. I credit my individual success to the wonderful support I received from the entire Chennaiyin FC family starting from the owners, management, teammates and of course the passionate fans of CFC. I am already looking forward to the second season and determined to make Chennaiyin FC the ISL champions this time,” said the playmaker.
Chennaiyin FC start their campaign by taking on champions Atletico de Kolkata in the ISL opener at home, on October 3, 2015.
