There was no surprise with regard to the top goal scorers category in the inaugural Indian Super League (ISL) as Elano Blumer, the Brazilian marquee player for Chennaiyin FC, walked away with the golden boot.
The 33 year-old had a goal glut at the start of the season which saw him pick-up five goals in four games for the Abhishek Bachchan co-owned side. He almost single-handedly guided Chennaiyin to the top of the table, before getting injured and missing a few games for the league's losing semi-finalists to Kerala Blasters.
Elano openend his account in the recently launched league with a sublime curling free-kick against FC Goa, becoming the first marquee to score in the competition. He followed that up with braces against Mumbai City FC and NorthEast United before scoring some individual pieces of brilliance with goals against the Kerala Blasters, Atletico de Kolkata and Delhi Dynamos.
He missed the home stretch in the ISL after picking up a knock against FC Pune City, making appearances in the semi-finals directly but couldn't help his team further with respect to increasing his goals tally. His free-kicks were a treat to watch and many an ISL fan will hope he turns up in the next edition in the same form as well.
