Chennaiyin FC are looking to strengthen their Indian contingent further by almost finalising a deal to secure the services of Sukhwinder Singh and Safar Sardar on loan from East Bengal.
Sukhwinder Singh's contract with IMG-Reliance wasn't renewed and as a result, he wasn't part of the domestic players draft of the inaugural edition of the Indian Super League (ISL). However, some good performances by him in the Calcutta Football League (CFL) helped East Bengal win the title yet again.
“I think the franchise contacted my club after seeing my performance in the league. An official from IMG-Reliance then helped to wrap the deal,” the former Pune FC midfielder told Goal.
Although no contracts have been signed as of yet, the club is confident of wrapping up the deals for both players within the next two or three days.
The Chennai franchise had to be content with the performance of Bengaluru franchise in the domestic draft held in July this year as they replaced the Sun Group to be the newest entrants in the tournament.
The Marco Materazzi coached team will start their campaign against FC Goa on 16th October, 2014.
