Alessandro Del Piero has signed a four-month deal with Indian Super League (ISL) side Delhi Dynamos FC, Goal can confirm.
The former Juventus star has also been confirmed as the brand ambassador of the two and a half month long tournament.
"The contract was to be signed over the weekend. However, a few issues needed to be ironed out. He (Del Piero) was lured not just by the Delhi deal, but also the fact that he was to be the face of the new league in India," a source close to the development informed Goal on Thursday morning.
As per contractual obligations the former Italy international is expected to make at least four-to-five promotional appearances for the league organisers.
Del Piero scored 208 goals in 513 appearances for Juventus and also won the World Cup in 2006 where he famously scored against Germany in the semi-final.
Goal had earlier confirmed that Stefano Del Piero, the player’s brother and agent was in India last month to hold discussions with the Manchandas over a possible move to India. Stefano also paid visit to Mumbai to discuss contractual issues with IMG-Reliance.
The announcement of the signing is to be made later on Thursday evening.
