Goa's ISL franchise likely to be named 'FC Goa'

The Goa franchisee of the Indian Super League (ISL) which is owned by Dempo SC chairman Shrinivas Dempo, Dattaraj Salgaocar and Venugopal Dhoot of Videocon have begun the process of registering themselves with the local state football association.

"They (Goa's ISL franchise officials) had come for a preliminary discussion. The request [to register Goa's ISL franchise] was placed in the earlier committee and certain clarifications were sought," Goa Football Federation (GFA) President Elvis Gomes told Goal.

According to sources in the GFA, it is reliably learnt that the Goan team prefers to enlist themselves as ‘FC Goa’ but have also come up with a couple of options in case, the said name isn’t available.

“Goa United Bishops FC (GUBFC) and Goa Dolphins are the other names suggested,” informed a source close to Goal.

The 14 Dempo SC players who will be on-loan to feature for 'Team Goa' are Mandar Rao Desai, Romeo Fernandes, Peter Carvalho, Holicharan Nazary, Pronay Halder, Prabir Das, Rowilson Rodrigues, Laxmikant Kattimani, Debabrata Roy, Gabriel Fernandes, Clifford Miranda, Shaikh Jewel Raja, Alwyn George and Narayan Das.

The club is yet to sign a marquee player and have roped in Steve Clarke as their manager.
