Paraguay, who lead the South American qualifying group in style, put a close to a fantastic year with a narrow 1-0 victory over Oman in an international friendly match.
Gerardo Martino's side won the match courtesy of a spot-kick from Enrique Vera in the 37th minute.
The Paraguayans dominated their opponents for large part of the match, but they couldn't make the most of the goal-scoring opportunities they created.
In the 76th minute Martino was sent-off by the match referee, Ali Al Matraq, and the Paraguayan coach had to observe the rest of the match from the dugout.
Towards the end of the match Oman pushed forward in large numbers, and they came close to picking up what would have been a fair draw.
When the South American World Cup qualifiers restart next March, Paraguay will travel to the Estadio Centenario of Montevideo to face Uruguay.
In the first round of the qualifiers, Paraguay beat Uruguay 1-0 in Asuncion.
